Garden of Eden

The Garden of Eden is an organically-grown food initiative at Rutgers University.

Our mission is to make the Rutgers community aware of the benefits of consuming organically-grown food (no sprays or pesticides to promote growth), and to give interested students hands-on experience in farming organically-grown produce.

Our goal is to introduce organically-grown food to the dining halls at Rutgers University, so as to create understanding and awareness through direct experience. The dining halls will be able to serve organically-grown lettuce that has been planted, cultivated, and harvested by Rutgers University students.

Several different types of organically-grown lettuce will be served each Wednesday at the Neilson Dining Hall on Douglass Campus, and are available to anyone with a meal plan that allows them to eat at that location.

Students grow the lettuce at The Student Sustainable Farm at Rutgers. The produce is harvested and delivered on the same day, so consumers will get the optimal nutritional benefits from their food.

Look for the "Organics" sign in the Neilson Dining Hall every Wednesday for your organically grown lettuce and please fill out our survey and return it via e-mail - we love to hear your feedback about the produce!

For more information about the project and/or how to become involved, contact us via e-mail, or "like" our page on Facebook - The Garden of Eden at RU.
